to some people caves offer nothing and they may even appear terrifying.cavers,on the otherhand, are completely happy underground : the darkness does not bother them and they cast barely a thought to the thousands of tons of rock overhead in the relatively tiny cave tunnels. It is only those who feel at home in caves who can continually return to them, either to explore them or just to see them or to work in them. the challenge and beauty of caves, the thrill of discovery are the attractions, but there are, of course, disadvantges. Caves are always dark, frequently wet, cold and muddy, and are often arduos to explore. But physical discomforts, can be ignored- indeedit is often the uncomfortable ones that are the most exciting. Outsidethe tropical regions a wet cave is normally a cold one, but usually cavers actually try to follow the water incaves, rather than avoid it. The underground steams have formed the caves and provide the life and activity-in contrast to the almost complete silencr of the streamless caves,
Consquently the most exciting part of cave exploration is in following a stream or river into its undergrond world deep in a limestone mountain.
